ORTHOPTIC EVALUATION

The focus of Orthoptics on the evaluation and non-surgical treatment of disorders of vision, eye movements and eye alignment in children and adults. An orthoptist specializes in visual function assessment and neuromuscular anomalies of the eyes. Orthoptic therapy can be done with the patients who suffer from muscular deficiency and feel eye fatigue when doing everyday activities such as reading and computer usage, or if they are experiencing blurry vision, headaches, difficulty reading for an extended period of time, double vision, and in cases of ocular deviation, the residual deviations post-surgery.

In addition to the therapy carried out by an orthoptist, they will also evaluate the severity of Strabismus. Depending on the assessment by the orthoptist, the patient may be remitted to a Strabismus surgeon.
  • Pleoptic therapy is done when the patient has lazy eye or amblyopia

  • The adaption process to prosthesis when the eyeball has been lost, is another treatment offered by the orthoptist.
